Experimental Study of Wool Fiber on Purification of Indoor Air

1:1 Conclusions: As a kind of natural air filter and adsorption material, wool fiber can filter and adsorb harmful gases.
The mechanisms of adsorption of formaldehyde and the creation of anions have been theoretically analyzed and experimentally examined. The experimental results show that wool is a good adsorber of formaldehyde, with the degradation ratio of wool fabric and wool fiber being 74% and 69.3% respectively. The experiment on creating anions by wool shows that the emission measurements of wool fiber are over 3000 per cm3 through friction and wool has better purification to air. Nanometer technology can be combined with chemical reactions to enhance the velocity of chemical reactions, accelerate the removal speed of hazardous materials, and improve the stability and persistence of the creation of anions.

Wool has many Added-Value Benefits which have led to its long history of use.

Insulation. Wool insulates against heat and cold.
Comfortable in both hot and cold weather because it absorbs moisture vapour. The crimp in the wool fibres makes them stand apart from each other trapping insulating air between the fibres. Still air is one of the best insulators found in nature. In hot weather the absorption/evaporation process works to help keep the body cooler.
Fire resistant. Wool does not have to be specially treated to become non-flammable. A fabric made entirely of wool is difficult to ignite, burns slowly, and has limited ability to sustain a flame. Wool does not melt when burned and so cannot stick to the skin and cause serious burns.
Water repellent. Although wool can absorb moisture, it repels liquids. It is naturally hydrophobic. The scales on the outside of the fibre cause liquid to roll off the surface of the fabric. Even if wool does eventually get wet it generates heat and keeps the body warm, not cold and clammy.
Elastic. Wool has greater elasticity than any other plant or animal fibre. Wool can be twisted, turned and stretched and will still return to its natural shape.
Durable. The interlocking protein molecules in the fibres of wool have the power to elongate, stretch and recover, creating an extremely robust fabric that will last. Each wool fibre is made up of millions of 'coiled springs' that stretch and give rather than break.
Static resistant. Wool has very little tendency to collect static electricity because wool naturally absorbs moisture from the air. Wool garments are much less likely to 'spark' or cling to the body.
Noise insulation. Wool absorbs noise and reduces noise levels.
Dirt resistant. Wool's ability to absorb moisture and therefore its low build-up of static electricity means that wool does not attract lint and dust from the air. The crimp in the fibre and the scales on the outside of the fibre deep dirt from penetrating the fabric.
Dye-ability. Wool is easy to dye. The scales on the surface of the wool fibre diffuse light giving less reflection and a softer colour. The proteins in the core of the fibre absorb and combine with a wide variety of dyes and allows the wool to hold its colour.
Comfort. Wool is comfortable to wear because of its elasticity, and moisture absorbing qualities.
Fashionable. Wool drapes well, is alive, flexible and tailors easily, making it sought after by fashion designers.

• Being a natural product, with no toxic substances used throughout its processing, the selection of wools employed in our products is considered both hypoallergenic and ecologically sound. 100% bio degradable and recyclable
• Airborne contaminants constitute a recognized health hazard in sealed home & office environments the use of wool can provide a natural and effective solution to this problem in these environs.

• A feature of wool is its ready propensity to absorb dyestuff, which makes for the widest possible range of color options, in rich or delicate shadings, for all interior design requirements.
• It also readily blends with a wide range of secondary fibers, which can thereby impart customized performance or appearance characteristics to meet specific user requirements.

Safety
• Wool is naturally flame resistant as a material, and can be treated using IWS process technology to comply with the most demanding flame retardancy and smoke emission standards.

LADY Fabrics natural Soft Touch Wool is created in a certified ISO mill that is eco conscious. We use hydro and natural gas fuel power with low fume emission. Our dyes pose no risk to human health. Water used in our dying process is treated prior to release; all effluents are extracted and safety disposed. All waste materials are separated to be re-cycled.

Our wool fabrics can be re cycled and are 100% biodegradable

Wool will maintain a clean “as new” appearance for much longer than other fiber type fabrics.
Upholstery is more exposed to greasy soiling because of the frequent handling it receives, especially on the arms of chairs. Wool’s ability to resist soiling and shed soil during cleaning allows wool fabrics to retain their appearance when others become matted and dirty.
Wool’s inherent resistance to flame and heat make it one of the safest of all upholstery fibres. Wool can readily absorb and dissipate the body’s perspiration, preventing the build-up of heat and dampness. When treated with the appropraite F/R application wool passes the most stringent of fire regulations.
